The Residency Program

The Mary Johnston Hospital General Surgery Residency Program is a five-year, columnar training program accredited by the Philippine College of Surgeons. It is designed to provide progressive graduated experience and responsibility tailored to the needs of the General Surgery program. The program offers, within its training period, exposures, rotations and experience best suited to provide the educational foundation for General Surgery, with the primary goal of preparing each resident to be successful in the career path he/she chooses--whether academics, subspecialty, or private practice. Graduates of this program are competent to enter a fellowship or private practice or to continue on in an academic career. Through close supervision, the surgical staff provides teaching at each level for the residents with a well-organized program of increasing responsibility from the first through the fifth years.
